Chakra Rhythms Instructional CD Set

The concept of chakras, or personal energy centers, originated with the ancient Hindu Upanishad texts. They are associated with different aspects of our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual being. Many spiritual traditions and energy practitioners work with the chakras to bring about the development of our self-awareness. Seven main chakras reside in the body, which correspond to different colors and musical frequencies.
Jim and Jennifer Kinney work with the chakras in their private energy practice, workshops, and music. Inspired by the "Rhythms of the Chakras" album produced in 1998 by five-time Grammy Award winner and extraordinary percussionist, Glen Velez, they developed original 4-part djembe rhythms which resonate with the chakras. These rhythms became the foundation for drum circles at the Santa Fe Harmony Center, and have been performed by the Living Spirit Drummers on many occasions. These rhythms are now available for others to learn and play. Originally published as a 2-CD set, now each rhythm can also be downloaded. Each chakra rhythm has 15 tracks:
- One track: Complete 4-part rhythm
- Eight tracks: Individual four beats, played slow and at speed
- Four tracks: Four "play along" tracks missing one of the beats
- Two voice tracks: Chakra Beat Intro and Chakra Rhythms Play Along Intro
Finally, beat notation sheets can be downloaded from this page, detailing hand position and type of beat to play.
